Thomas E. Boyd, Principal
-
A
highly respected member of the home care community, Tom Boyd
is a nationally recognized expert in the field of home health
and Medicare reimbursement. Mr. Boyd is one of two principals
at Boyd & Nicholas, a leading financial consulting firm
serving home health and hospice organizations nationally. With
expertise in cost report preparation, financial analysis, due
diligence, accounting, and more, Mr. Boyd contributes his knowledge
to industry conferences, associations and publications. Prior
to founding Boyd & Nicholas, Mr.Boyd served as an intermediary
auditor for more than eleven years and worked for another national
consulting firm from 1989 to 1993. He has a BA in Management/Accounting
from Sonoma State University and a MBA in Business Administration
from St. Mary's College. He is a member of the HHFMA Workgroup,
the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and the U.S. Chess Federation.

Thomas Nicholas, Principal -
An
innovative financial consultant, Tom Nicholas is known for
developing and improving accounting policies and procedures
in a manner that improves efficiency, saves money, and delivers
timely results. Mr. Nicholas is one of two principals at Boyd
& Nicholas, a leading financial consulting firm serving
home health and hospice organizations nationally. With expertise
in cost report preparation, financial analysis, due diligence,
accounting, and more, Mr. Nicholas contributes his knowledge
to industry conferences and publications. Tom currently serves
as outsourced CFO for several home health agencies and has
served as interim CFO for home health agencies and hospice
agencies. Prior to founding Boyd & Nicholas, he worked
for another national consulting firm from 1989 to 1993, in
addition to serving as a Vice President of Finance and CFO
of a transportation company. Mr. Nicholas has a BS in Accounting
from Pepperdine University. Tom is a QuickBooks Certified
ProAdvisor.

Jim Robinson, Senior Financial Analyst,
Jim has a Bachelors of Science in Business Management and an
Associate Degree in Accounting. His expertise in MS Excel led
to a teaching position at Empire College. He has over ten years
experience in Medicare home health and hospice reimbursement
and cost reporting. Jim has experience in and knowledge of (and
truly enjoys) financial analysis, budget preparation and variance
analysis, benchmarking, and problem solving. Jim is a QuickBooks

Nancy Boyd, Senior Consultant
Nancy is responsible for Provider Enrollment CMS 855A submissions,
commercial follow-up billing for clients, AR, AP, billing as
well as HR and payroll for Boyd & Nicholas. Nancy has years
of management experience in the healthcare industry which includes
managing in a hospital business office setting, Claims Administration
for a large HMO, Patient Financial Services for a medical group
of 80 physicians and a home health agency. Nancy has a working
knowledge of managed care contracts, claims examination, medical
review, billing, financial counseling, and credit and collections.
Nancy has her AS degree in pre-nursing and her BS degree in
Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management, graduating
with honors, from the University of San Francisco. Nancy is
the proud grandmother of two granddaughters and a grandson.

Kathleen Cromwell, Financial Analyst and Office Manager
A graduate of Empire College, Kathleen earned her degree in
Accounting with President’s Honors. Prior to attending
Empire, she worked for 22 years at Sola Optical in Petaluma,
where she managed the maintenance inventory for a 24 hour manufacturing
operation. Kathleen is also a registered tax preparer in the
state of California. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoys bowling,
camping, and collecting Coca-Cola items. Kathleen is a QuickBooks

Diane Scirica, Financial Analyst
A graduate of Empire College with a certification in Accounting
with Computer Applications, Diane graduated with a 4.0 GPA and
President’s honors. She was recognized for her outstanding performance
as a Membership Director of the Institute of Management Accountants
Student Chapter while attending Empire College. She is NNA Certified
and Background Screened Notary Signing Agent. Prior to attending
Empire, she worked for 15 years in the mortgage industry. She
is a Board Director of the Santa Rosa Women’s 500 Bowling Club
and Double Decker Lanes Match Club. Diane likes working in her
garden, bowling and collecting Winnie the Pooh memorabilia.

Selise Smith, Operations Analyst
Before coming to work with us Selise was the Office Services
Manager for one the largest civil litigation law firms in Northern
California. Her forte is looking at current processes and procedures
and improving upon them. Selise has been with us since early
2009 and since that time has made many improvements which have
helped to increase our accuracy and efficiency. She and the
firm principals’ review all of our client’s cost
reports before they are submitted to insure that we continue
to produce quality cost reports. Selise is also responsible
for the preparation and mailing of our newsletters and client
advisories. Selise graduated from Empire College with top honors
as a certified Legal Secretary. She enjoys reading, photography,
good food, fine wine and spending time with her family and friends.

Cathy Spoon, File Coordinator
Cathy’s years of work experience comes from working in
a Financial Institution, the Corporate office of local restaurant
chain, Medical billing, Project Manager’s Assistant in
a General Contractor’s office, and the Mechanical Engineering
department of a local telecom company. She's one of those "Jack
of All Trades" types in that she has also graduated from
nursing school as a Certified Medical Assistant /Phlebotomist
in 2004 & 2005. As well as a graduate of the National Holistic
Institute of Massage Therapy with her CMT/Health Educator Certificate
and is a certified massage therapist in Sonoma County. She's
an avid reader, going through at least three books a week. When
she is not working or reading, she spends time as a wife and
